This is a really fast sketch I did on the train today. :) I actually found a good paper for ink sketching in the form of a mini sketchbook from a set I had received two years ago (?) for Christmas. (Yeah, I said I didn't want to use a sketchbook, but... I don't have any other special ink paper.) The format is 10x14 cm, roughly postcard size. And wow, that fude nib is expressive! XD This is the first time I tried drawing with it and I'm still not sure if I love it or hate it. It's definitely not my usual style... LOL

This is so expressive! I love how you really went to town with the nib's varying line weights. =D

Cool how you were able to get that shiny texture of a glass surface through varying the widths of the hard lines, instead of using a lighter value. :)

Not necessarily, the challenge is to draw with "ink". Inks, ink pens, brush pens and markers can come in a variety of values. Even if you use one colour, some of them go darker with more and more layers added on top. Also, inking with a paintbrush can also result in a range of values.

I did a fair bit of hatching and stippling with a black ink pen in high school, but never tried the other stuff above, so last year's Inktober I had a lot of fun playing around with those techniques as well.

You can see different interpretations of Inktober in the Inktober tag at Tumblr. But giving yourself a limit of just black and white is definitely a good way to challenge and develop drawing skills. :)

Sounds good - looking forward to it! *cheers you on*

This year, in addition to other inking techniques, I'm hoping to work on practicing with an ink pen, especially to draw textures that seem like they would be difficult to capture - like smoke, bubbles, water, and other transparent surfaces.

I like the high contrast values and the shadows especially.

Oh I like how strong this looks. It reminds me of woodblock printing. Very cool.
