...because I needed to do something with that PV15 (a color I don't use very often), and not many flowers come in this muted pink color. In German, this plant is called 'Nieswurz' (sneeze root) because powder made from the subterranen parts of the plant makes people sneeze. With words like this, I always wonder who the f*ck tried that for the first time. It's all for the science?!?

Materials I used:
Stillman&Birn Zeta Series sketchbook (270 g/m²)
Watercolors: Turner Permanent Lemon (PY109), Mijello Bamboo Green (PG36), QoR Ultramarine Pink (PV15), ShinHan PWC Cerulean Blue (PB35), Rembrandt Spinel Grey (PBk26)
White gel pen (Pentel)

Date: 2024-04-03 03:06 am (UTC)I really like PBk26, it's a very 'inky' black, but as far as I know, there are only two manufacturers that have it (Talens Rembrandt and MaimeriBlu). I suppose black watercolor isn't all that popular anyway because of, well, certain watercolor myths. XD

Date: 2024-04-03 03:10 am (UTC)Meanwhile, I remember getting the notification for some "natural pigments" line from Horadam and they're all "they're less lightfast, but so lovely and nuanced unlike those synthetic pigments," and I'm all, That's very nice but I'm sorry, I'm not buying your actual-ass alizarin crimson, kthx. I mean I am guessing the yellow ochre and vine black are perfectly fine, but ALIZARIN CRIMSON?!?!?!

Date: 2024-04-03 03:16 am (UTC)...wait, who said synthetic pigments are not nuanced? I hate this superstitious nonsense. I just wish there were a nice synthetic red that's lightfast but looks like real alizarin crimson - there are some pretty good 'fake' attempts out there, but alizarin crimson still is the loveliest. ;)

Date: 2024-04-03 03:20 am (UTC)The Horadam Naturals line says that as their ad copy to get you to buy their new spendy things.
I wish that too! I think alizarin crimson is very pretty, but I have been Warned. I tried using or mixing things out of PR179, which some places recommend, but...it's really not the same, or else I suck at mixing (very possible).
It is the bane of my existence that my favorite paint color is red and the reds are HELL NIGHTMARE VOMIT MODE for lightfastness generally as far as I can tell. XD

Date: 2024-04-03 03:27 am (UTC)...and nope, I mean, if you found a good, reliable way to replace alizarin, you'd be famous. XD There are some very nice lightfast reds (my 'standard' reds are PR254 for a relatively neutral 'bright red' and PR144 for a colder red, and I kind of like PR179 as well though it really doesn't look like alizarin), but... not the same thing.
