So, this is for an advent calendar game thingy... You know how much I love those. XD We have 25 participants, everyone draws 24 inchies (yes, little 1x1 inch drawings) and sends them to our victim organizer, who then builds advent calendars for all of us... With one inchie from each other participant. YAY! (Holy crap, I'm so f*cking glad I don't have to pack those letters!) These are the 24 inchies I drew. The topics are varied because I looked at everyone's profiles to find something that a) they will like, and b) I can actually draw. (Occasionally, that was one small Venn diagram.)

My favorite is, of course, the bog landscape - out of principle. (Yes, someone asked for that. Can do... LOL) I was also surprised that someone requested minerals, because, hey. XD From a purely artistic standpoint, I'm especially happy how the dragonfly and the fern turned out.

I used Staedtler fineliners (different tip sizes), watercolors, Posca white acrylic pen and Sakura white gel pen on KREUL mixed media paper (which is one of the very few "mixed media" papers that actually work for wet media).I don't know why the scan is so blurry - maybe something in the scanner settings.

Merry Christmas, to all who celebrate – and a wonderful time to absolutely everyone!!!

I haven’t posted much lately – I’m very busy with science. This is a good thing, of course. Still, I really regret not showing you all the woooonderful things I’ve received during the Advent time. I had three Advent calendars this year (from smilestack, linaly, and Sam_Linnifer) and also received some lovely unrelated Christmas mail… So, this is going to be a picspam post – you have been warned. (Pictures are behind the cut.)

I can’t show everything I received, although all my gifts were awesome: there was a lot of fanart involving my own characters (YAY!!!), tea (I’m drowning in tea!), chocolate, other fascinating foodstuff, a virtual museum tour of a mineralogical exhibition, conducted by my own characters (double YAY!!!), and art and craft supplies to last me a lifetime. :D Also, I made some stuff for other people, but that will have to go into a separate post. This one is just for awesome handmade things I received!

Sooo - these craft projects were all made by other people for me; I’m giving the appropriate credits, of course… And I’m amazed (and, in some cases, shocked) how well people know me, my taste, and my occasionally odd preferences.

Here are the pictures: )

THANK YOU!

No inktober today... But a local art supply shop had a sale and I stocked up on stuff for jewelery making! I haven't done this in a very long time, but oh, I had totally forgotten how much fun it is! Aaaand I made something for my colleague:

Well, technically, today's Inktober topic was supposed to be "Glass Beads", so, uh, it kind of fits anyway?!?

Beads, elastic nylon string, and a cabochon with a tiny drawing (ink pen and watercolor) of a dragon and some crystals.

This is more like scribble held together with sparkle, but at least I'm only one day behind now?!?

So a few weeks ago I was visiting that conference. (Okay, I visited three conferences during the last few weeks, and at least two of them were too many. And then some meetings. Anyway...) The funniest thing I found there was a card game - Authors - featuring ore minerals. Not just a crystal card game but only ore minerals, which was so weirdly specific I (of course) had to buy that thing. Still, I'd like to know, who came up with that particular idea? (And did it sell well?)

By the way, this painting shows Goethite, also an ore mineral. As a reference, I used a piece from my institute's collection. No, I don't work with ore minerals (I'm more the carbonate kind of person LOL), but isn't it nice to know our scientific resources are used so well?
