An ATC I made today, with material mainly from my advent calendar! Because it's one of my more detailed cards, I took photos during the process, so if you're interested you can view the step-by-step (with materials and methods) behind the cut.

It all began with green paper. This was an advent calendar gift from Taddi that's definitely not watercolor paper. (Taddi is not to blame: I found the paper online, and it is sold as watercolor paper. Made total sense to get this product for me, and I am appropriately grateful!) It's so thin that I had to glue it on a cardboard background before I could do anything with it. That's fine - I have glue. The glue seeping into the paper from the backside even partly compensated the lack of sizing, isn't that wonderful? (Yes, that was an improvement, not kidding.) Yadda. And even then, it's one of the worst things I've ever painted on. Holy shit, this paper sucks. (Which is tragic, because it looked so wonderful, I really love the color, and if only it worked as advertised it would have been perfect for me.) I'll try to use it with pencils next, maybe it's more forgiving with dry media. (Let's hope!)

Scribbly! Fineliner! Drawing! One of the things this paper does not permit is the use of erasers (the surface will just peel off), so, fineliners it was. Not the best choice for a preliminary drawing, but it could not be helped.

Shadows with black acrylic marker, partly diluted with water. (Waterbrush YAY!)

...and I did the basic light layer accordingly with a white acrylic pen.

First color layer! The new watercolors were a generous gift from CaitlynMurphy. (I'll put a material list in the end.) Aaaand the coloring went on and on. Not very systematically, I'm afraid - I just looked which area of the picture needed what. Usually, I would not do that, but with only a handful of colors, it can't get too unharmonious, so, whatever! In the end, I put some details with a white gel pen and, finally, drew "proper" outlines with the fineliners. I also added a somewhat stronger red and some white sprinkles at the suggestion of my boyfriend. (He was correct, it did improve the picture a lot.)
