I drew this ATC last week but somehow forgot to upload it here. This is a very German dragon: guarding a hoard of gold, eating the (anti-)heroes who are after that treasure, and everything. :)
Genuine question: I remember from your posts that Nibelungenlied interpretation and translation is full of land mines esp for foreigners - is the same true of Nibelungenlied-based art? I would consider doing Hagen fanart but it struck me that looking for references could be...troublesome.
Actually, Nibelungenlied art is fairly unproblematic in the political sense. In your research, you'll just find a lot of 19th century fanart bordering on kinky porn - but you'll hardly be shocked. (A certain bondage scene is the clearly most popular fanart motif.) Just don't do that research when other people are around. ;)
Seriously, research should be easy - you don't need to worry about historical accuracy, because, hey, Unknown Author already didn't. (They set the story "in the past", but their characters are wearing "modern" - that is, modern at the time the thing was written - clothes, etc., basically, anything medieval-ish goes.) Unknown Author already seemed to be aware the genre is Fantasy. I mean, there are some landmines if you artificially insert runic or "Germanic" symbolism, but as long as you just stick to the text you're fairly safe.
