Got these today in my advent calendar from Eleisis. Yep, that's pink resin with a lot of glitter - the timeless classic for rune charms. (Clip earrings because I don't have ear piercings.) I am in awe. Clearly, Eleisis understands my style of thinking very well... When in doubt, go for pink glitter! The runes are dagaz and raido, chosen for excellent reasons. :D I absolutely LOVE them!

I have a rune oracle deck by Rann (French manga-style artist?) but I confess I still have to look up rune meanings, as my early exposure to them was via Tolkien, and not in a way that discussed the meanings. (That or I missed the explanation in Lord of the Rings, which is completely plausible, given that I would skim descriptive passages lol.)

LotR doesn't have 'rune explanations' - while the worldbuilding is Norse-inspired, Tolkien invented his own languages and also invented some new creative runic alphabets. If I remember correctly, he actually used Old English runes for the dwarves (out of context, of course, becaue those books are fantasy novels after all), but that's as close as it gets to 'historical'...

'Dagaz' is the 'day' rune, which is typically used in the context of 'clarity / understanding' or 'dawn / new beginning', and also commonly appears in protection charms as 'repel the darkness'. 'Raido' is 'ride / travel / journey' or, in a more abstract sense, 'purpose, choice, decision'. (Unsurprisingly, it's one of my favorites, and I carry it often enough.) If you combine these two, you get something like 'safety on travels', 'the choice to understand', or 'journey of enlightenment' - all pretty useful. XD

Ah, thank you, that's very cool! I last read LotR in middle school so genuinely didn't remember much (not helped by the fact that I kind of hated it lol).

I suspect English-language websites on rune meanings will be a land mine / crap shoot but something like this maybe?? (Don't feel obliged to respond!)

I didn't hate LotR (there are worse books), I was just kind of bored by it.

That list looks good enough... Though, of course, we have to keep in mind that all modern lists of 'rune meanings' (especially when made for rune use rather than archaeology purposes) are reconstructions from the few rune poems that survived - sometimes attempted in good faith, sometimes less so. In this case, I think it looks like a genuine effort.
