Inktober day 14 Distorted View

No sketchbook of mine is complete without begonias! Those are my favorite flowers because... because... because of their leaves, which are mathematically fascinating. (Yes, mathematical interest also features in my appreciation of flora...) This one is distorted (and flipped upside down) by the water droplet hanging from a leaf. Obviously, I wasn't going for realism here (as also evidenced by the huge negative begonia-leaf shape in the background, LOL), I was just having fun. Also, I'm sloooowly trying to catch up.

I keep trying to look for what you mean about distorted/flipped but I keep not being able to figure out what water droplet you're referring to?

It's a lovely image, though! It's clear how much love you have for your subject matter. :)

What's so mathematically fascinating about their leaves?

The one in the middle?!? I'll admit the effect is almost invisible now because I'm posting the drawing smaller than it actually is. XD

...begonia leaves are FIBONACCI SPIRALS! Which never fails to excite me! <3

I was assuming so, but wasn't noticing anything in the drop itself! If it's just so small that it's near-invisible, then I feel better about not noticing. :)

Don't feel bad! It's clearly visible... ... ...in the original drawing, which is a whole A4 page. Yeah. In a sized down version, it's lost in the general scribbliness of the whole thing. :D

:) I think that also explains why you always think your art is so scribbly, and everyone else is like ??? about that -- the scribbliness also gets somewhat lost, when it's shrunk down so much.

Yeah, and it's even mistaken for detail - LOL. What does this teach me? It's entirely useless to invest time into detail work.

At this scale I can 1. see what you mean by scribbly, 2. see the refraction in that droplet, and 3. really appreciate the way the sparkles look :)

Technically, it's not detail, it's vague scribbling that will be mistaken for detail - but thanks! I'm always happy when people enjoy my stuff! :)
